OUR HISTORY

Soltec (Ireland) Ltd was established in 1994 by local Mullingar businessman, Michael Corcoran. It is a key provider of environmentally sound and sustainable solutions to businesses that produce hazardous waste across Ireland. It is the only Irish-based provider of solvent distillation (recycling) services. Soltec is one of only five companies in Ireland that are licensed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to manage hazardous waste. Its clients include a wide range of businesses, ranging from multinational pharmaceutical companies to local Mullingar garages and bodyshops.

Soltec is a family-run local business that has invested 100% of its profits into the growth of its facilities and services. This includes a multi-million investment programme in the development of a state-of-the-art treatment facility in the IDA Business Park, Clonmore, Mullingar in 2019. It is proud to provide employment to the local economy and has grown its staff from 2 employees in 1994 to over 30 in 2023.

SUSTAINABILITY

Soltec is committed to providing sustainable solutions through the application of the ‘circular economy’ model. The ‘circular economy’ is a key policy and commitment of the European Green Deal and is supported in Ireland through the Environmental Protection Agency. The aims of the ‘circular economy’ are reflective of Soltec’s own objectives, that is:

  • to keep materials and products in-use in the economy for as long as possible
  • to eliminate waste through innovative recycling techniques
  • to seek opportunities to recover and recycle hazardous waste materials.

In Soltec, the evidence of its commitment to environmental sustainability and reducing carbon emissions is best demonstrated through its data:

  • 2,247 tonnes per year – the net carbon dioxide reduction as a result of Soltec making recovered solvents, replacing the market need for virgin solvents.
  • 2,350 tonnes per year – the carbon savings achieved through Soltec’s production of liquid recovered fuel produced from waste solvents that would otherwise be incinerated.

To put these carbon savings into perspective, it would take 218,904 trees to absorb the same amount of carbon dioxide that is saved through Soltec’s recovery process alone.

Soltec continues to invest to achieve its sustainability goals. Most recently, Soltec invested in an extensive solar array, meaning that 70% of the electrical energy we expend on the recycling and recovery process is renewable.
